Impulse Buyers – Stay out of the Grocery Stores!

Are you the impulse shopper that all grocery stores love to see?  We’ll haven’t I got news for you, and it isn’t good.

Two articles in the news yesterday back my mission for all home cooks to control their own food shopping. Unless of course you don’t mind  supermarkets taking advantage of you.

The first was an article in the Daily Mail – ‘The not-so-special offers that cost more:‘ and tells of a survey conducted by the consumer champion Which?. Over a year they surveyed more than 700,000 products and found that supermarkets are tempting unsuspecting shoppers with bogus special offers including some where prices are being increased instead of marked down.

The second article was aired in a new series called Secret Eaters on Channel 4 recently. Amazingly by grocery shopping online, the impulse spend is 55% less than traditional shopping.  This just goes to show how much we can be manipulated if we aren’t in control.

Unless we are self sustaining, we need the grocery store and local supplier, however, the future is in online grocery shopping, but before we all rush off to log on – we still need to be in control of our grocery shopping, after all clicking is easier than walking.Google+
